Description

This course is a historical, theological, and pastoral study of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. It examines the development of the Church’s understanding of the diaconate, presbyterate, and episcopacy beginning with the New Testament through the modern era. The course will also examine the relationship of the ministerial priesthood to the common priesthood of the faithful. The course will consider various contemporary theological and pastoral issues regarding Holy Orders, including the practice of celibacy and the doctrine of male ministerial priesthood. (3 credits.)
