Description
This course introduces the student to the art and craft of proclaiming a homily in a liturgical setting, which is “a distinctive genre, since it is preaching situated within the framework of a liturgical celebration” (EG 138). It examines the ecclesial and liturgical contexts that shape the distinctive character of the homily as a dialogic proclamation of the Good News. This course incorporates public speaking skills and homiletic composition with frequent opportunities for the student to preach and receive constructive feedback. Emphasis will be placed on the study of Church documents related to preaching. (3 credits.)
