Description
This course provides an overview of Medieval Theologians and their contributions to the theological tradition. Topics may include the development of theology from monasteries to Cathedral Schools and then to Universities; the relationship between lectio, disputatio, and praedicatio; the formation of high medieval scholasticism; and the contributions of medieval theologians to core Christian doctrines. Priority will be given to a selection of primary texts drawn from key medieval texts and figures, such as Anselm of Laon and the Glossa Ordinaria, Hugh of St. Victor, Peter Lombard, Bonaventure, and Aquinas.
